Andy Reid, Ray Horton and Mike McCoy are hot names on the NFL head coach rumor mill (Shutdown Corner)

Here’s a Wednesday afternoon round-up of rumors and interviews for the seven head coaching vacancies in the NFL. Arizona Cardinals : The Cardinals have been closely linked to former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid, whose pitch includes a vow to ” fix Kevin Kolb “. That may not be what the Bidwell family wants to hear after sinking over $20 million into Kolb over the last two seasons and only getting 14 starts in return. Kolb is due $11.5 million in 2013, including a $2 million roster bonus that comes due on the 5th day of the league year. Cardinals president Michael Bidwell spent New Year’s Day meeting with defensive coordinator Ray Horton, who would be an outstanding choice for the team’s head coaching vacancy. Despite the team’s disappointing 5-11 season, the defense played well, ranking sixth in Football Outsiders’ defensive DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) metric and were second in DVOA when defending the pass. Bidwell and Horton are scheduled to meet again on Wednesday while the interview with Reid will take place on Thursday. Bidwell also plans to meet with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy over the weekend and former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith is interested in the position , as well. Buffalo Bills : Bills CEO Russ Brandon now full authority over football operations and is leading the team’s search for a new head coach. That process began in Arizona where Brandon will reportedly interview former Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt as well as former offensive line coach Russ Grimm and defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Like the Cardinals, the Bills are also seeking to interview Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and could interview Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone. Former Bears head coach Lovie Smith also interest in the Bills’ opening and given the talent that the Bills have on that side of the ball, they should absolutely schedule an interview with Smith. Chicago Bears : GM Phil Emery is looking for “his guy” and the search will include interviews with Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillas, a former colleague from their days with the Atlanta Falcons. Other candidates on Emery’s list include Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements, Falcons special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan. Cleveland Browns : The Browns do not yet have a GM in place, but reportedly have a “No. 1 choice” in mind for their head coaching vacancy. According to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM radio, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is the top choice in Cleveland. The Browns interviewed Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton on Tuesday night and other candidates include Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien and Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone.
