Aaron Hernandez, Percy Harvin headline early game NFL inactive lists (Shutdown Corner)

Two of the most versatile offensive weapons in the National Football League will be inactive on Sunday. A bye week was not enough time for New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez’s ankle to get back to 100 percent and he will not dress for Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Hernandez initially injured his ankle in Week 2 and missed three weeks before returning in a limited role in a Week 6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks and a Week 7 win over the New York Jets. Hernandez caught 11 passes for 84 yards and a touchdown in those two games, but the ankle kept the 2011 Pro Bowler stateside as the Patriots scored a 45-7 win over the St. Louis Rams in London, England on Oct. 28. As for Harvin, who ranks second in the NFL in combined yards with 1,347, he had been playing through a right hamstring injury before suffering a left ankle injury in last Sunday’s 30-20 loss to the Seahawks. Harvin was held out of this week’s practices before being listed as “doubtful” on the Vikings’ final injury report of the week. Here are the rest of the inactive list for the early game slate of NFL games: Oakland Raiders at Baltimore Ravens Oakland : QB Terrelle Pryor, RB Mike Goodson, RB Darren McFadden, OT Khalif Barnes, G Lucas Nix, DT Richard Seymour, DE Jack Crawford Baltimore : RB Bobby Rainey, WR Deonte Thompson, TE Billy Bajema, OL Ramon Harewood, DE Pernell McPhee, CB Asa Jackson, S Christian Thompson Denver Broncos at Carolina Panthers Denver : QB Caleb Hanie, RB Knowshon Moreno, TE Julius Thomas, G Chris Kuper, DT Sealver Siliga, CB Tracy Porter, S Duke Ihenacho Carolina : QB Jimmy Clausen, WR Joe Adams, OT Bruce Campbell, DE Antwan Applewhite, DE Frank Keiser, LB Jason Williams, S D.J. How To Celebrate Thanksgiving With A Tailgate Party In Denver

Celebrate Thanksgiving with a festive Broncos tailgate (Credit, Mary Jeneverre Schultz) When it comes to celebrating the holidays while celebrating your favorite team, it’s “Go Big or Go Home.” And whether the Broncos play at home or away, the diehard tailgate following will celebrate all the same. We have the recipe and decor ideas to make your Thanksgiving tailgate bash one to be thankful for. Gobble Gobble First and foremost, we have to talk turkey. The fans have voted and the survey says fried turkey is the way to go. With its crispy, flavorful skin and juicy, tender meat, who could resist a deep-fried turkey? Legendary Bronco tailgaters wouldn’t divulge their secrete recipes, but per their consistent and enthusiastic recommendation, we tracked down a solid recipe to share with all of you fabulous fans. Equipment Outdoor propane turkey fryer or indoor electric turkey fryer Fire extinguisher – just in case Marinade-injecting syringe Food thermometer Turkey Size matters, so use a turkey that is 8-10 pounds but no larger than 12 pounds. Oil Frying a turkey requires lots of oil – you will need at least 3-5 gallons for frying. Cook Time You should cook 3-5 minutes per pound maintaining an oil temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Ingredients 2 cups butter 1 onion, sliced into rings 3 cloves of garlic, smashed Half-cup Louisiana Hot Sauce One-fourth cup Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons ground black pepper 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper 7 ounces Colorado-brewed beer – our choice, Mama’s Little Yella Pils by Oskar Blues Directions Melt the butter in a saucepan and then add remaining ingredients, mixing until blended. Using a marinade-injecting syringe, inject the mixture into the legs, back, wings, thighs and breasts of the turkey; injecting at least one inch deep. There is a ratio for optimal juiciness: 60 percent into the breast muscles, 30 percent into the leg and thigh muscles and 10 percent into the wing muscles. Do NOT stuff the turkey for frying! Allow the marinade to set for at least 30 minutes. In the meantime, fill the fryer to the fill line or at least three to five inches from the top. Preheat the oil to 375-400 degrees Fahrenheit. Once your turkey is done marinating and the fryer is ready to go, attach the turkey to the fryer basket. Lower the turkey in slowly to avoid splatter. This oil is going to be scalding hot and can cause severe burns if you are not careful. Place the lid back on and fry the turkey accordingly, three to five minutes per pound. Once the time is up, turn off the fryer and slowly remove the turkey. Allow the turkey to rest for at least 15 minutes. Then carve and enjoy! Decorations Pumpkins, corn and squash – oh my! Incorporate seasonal Thanksgiving foods into your tailgate decorations. Use pumpkins as candle holders, make wreaths out of blue and orange dried corn cobs or half and hollow yellow squash to fill with your favorite dips. Waxed leaves are this season’s top décor pick. Choose the most colorful leaves you can find, then simply press the leaves between two sheets of wax paper, covered by paper towels, and iron for 15 seconds. Spread the leaves across the table like a runner and plate your delicious grub on top. Be sure to incorporate blue and orange as often as you can. Think plates, cups, utensils, napkins and be creative. Use markers to fancy up your plastic wear with fight song lyrics, Bronco legends and, of course, things to be thankful for. Happy Holidays! And let us all give thanks for the Broncos! Check out Tailgate Fan to keep the party going at tailgatefan.cbslocal.com . Michelle Perez is a freelance writer covering all things Denver. CBS4′s Gary Miller Answers Fan Questions

Every week during CBS4′s Football Preview show Gary Miller answers questions from fans. Below are this week’s questions and Gary’s answers. Ron: Gary, as we see Peyton and the Broncos offense become more familiar with each other, do you think we’ll see more “trick” plays? It sure makes it exciting to see reverses, flea flickers, fake punts, etc. Gary: We all do love trick plays, but they usually come when the more conventional stuff isn’t working. Peyton Manning isn’t really a “trick-em” kind of guy. He studies too hard, he works too hard to think he has to trick the defense. He beats them because he studies and dissects their tendencies. Oh sure, maybe we’ll see a flea flicker down the line, but that is not really Manning’s game. Gilbert: Gary, when will we see Tracy Porter back on the field? Gary: Gilbert, your guess is as good as anybody else’s. John Fox said this week the Broncos are still helping Porter deal with his illness. Fox reported that Porter has not had any more seizures, but he has had some symptoms. As the coach said, Porter is not an accountant, he plays a violent sport and the Broncos have to make sure he’s healthy before they let him get back on the field. The coach also said that he meant no offense to accountants. Jim: Gary, barring any injuries, can the Broncos keep the momentum up throughout the rest of the season? Gary: Jim, I really think they can. We all know the schedule has turned in their favor with a much easier second half after that tough first half, and with Peyton Manning, anything is possible. He’s playing great football and his confidence and work ethic has rubbed off on the entire team. There’s still a long way to go, but right now things are looking very good for the Denver Broncos.
