If it seems like Peyton Manning is being hit more than he ever has in the past, it’s because he is. The Denver Broncos quarterback has been sacked eight times in the first three games of the 2012 season. If he continues to get sacked at this pace, he will set a personal career-high in sacks in a single season (currently that’s 29 times in 2001). This is not exactly the start that the Broncos wanted to have for Manning after his year-long absence from the game recovering from neck fusion surgery.

I can’t remember a time when the National Football League was this even. I don’t know if it was the replacement officials (who are finally gone) or that all the teams in the league evened up in the offseason, but through the first three weeks of the season, just three teams remain undefeated. In the AFC, only the Houston Texans remain, while the NFC has two teams, the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals.

The Atlanta Falcons continue to be one of the most impressive teams throughout the opening weeks of the 2012-13 NFL season. With a 3-0 record, the similarities between Matt Ryan and a young Peyton Manning are more evident with each drop back. As the team appears ready to run away with the NFC South division title, the NFL.com Power Rankings have moved the team from the dirty south up one spot to No. 3. Where do they stand compared to other NFC teams, as well as the other undefeated teams?

Never before in the history of American professional sports have so many individuals been so happy about referees. Gone are the replacement refs, but one can’t help but wonder just how long it will be before we’re all back to complaining about the standard officials that we’ve been yearning for since the preseason. As for the 2012 Week 4 contests, I only went against the grain a handful of times. Such upset picks do not include Thursday night’s showdown in Baltimore.
