NFL hits Joe Mays back
DENVER (AP) – Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays will be suspended for one game and fined $50,000 by the NFL for his hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub over the weekend. Mays drew a roughing-the-passer penalty for his third-quarter hit on Schaub, who lost part of his earlobe when his helmet flew off in a 31-25 win Sunday. As part of his suspension, Mays won’t practice with the Broncos this week or be at the team’s headquarters as they prepare for the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. He will be reinstated Monday. Mays can appeal the suspension. When asked after the game if he expected to be fined, Mays said: “Oh yeah. I’m expecting that. But it was not my intention to do that.” Mays is a fifth-year player from North Dakota State. (© Copyright 2012 The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. NFL power rankings and discussions about which team is the best in the league have all taken a backseat to complaints about replacement refs who are now officially responsible for directly impacting the outcome of a game. I have decided to not reward Seattle nor punish Green Bay following Monday’s debacle, and my Week 4 NFL power rankings reflect that way of thinking. Cleveland fans certainly can’t blame refs for how their favorite team has thus far played this season. The Browns are a mess.

We’ve all seen the play enough times by mid-afternoon Tuesday to be through the stomach retching and on to analysis. You can slow it down as much as you want, but if you can’t see what a travesty the final play of the Green Bay Packers-Seattle Seahawks tilt was on Monday Night Football then you simply don’t know much about football or lead your life trying desperately to find any way to antagonize.
