Colorado school district bans Peyton Manning’s No. 18 jersey (Reuters)

DENVER (Reuters) – Students at a Colorado school district may be excited about the upcoming debut of Peyton Manning as the Denver Broncos’ new quarterback, but they are banned from wearing the NFL star’s number 18 jersey to class. A dress code imposed by school officials in Greeley, Colorado prohibits students and staff members from wearing clothing that may be associated with gang activity – including the number 18, which could refer to the Los-Angeles-based 18th Street gang. …

San Francisco 49ers Open Season at Lambeau Field: Fan’s Take (Yahoo! Contributor Network)

The 2011 season ended on a bittersweet note. While the San Francisco 49ers shocked the NFL world by sporting a 13-3 record, their heartbreaking loss in the NFC Championship game to the eventual Super Bowl champions New York Giants is tough to forget. As a longtime fan, it is tormenting to speculate what could have happened had the Niners advanced. Despite last year’s success and disappointing end, we have to put it behind us and look forward to what’s in store for 2012.
