Niko Koutouvides proved to be the perfect motivator for Nate Webster.
When the Denver Broncos signed Koutouvides to a three-year, $7.5 million contract in March, Webster knew he was in for some competition at middle linebacker.
“Signing Niko just made me lock in and focus a little more coming into camp,” Webster said.
The proof came Monday when coach Mike Shanahan said Webster had won the starting job.
“I think you spur everybody on by signing people that can play,” Shanahan said.
Bronco coach Mike Shanahan wouldn’t say what was the deciding factor in his decision to give Webster the starting job, but he did say that he will continue to evaluate the position.
